Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Thoroughly Banning the Illegal Trading of Wildlife and Abolishing the Irrational Practice of Consuming Wildlife to Effectively Safeguard People's Life and Health

In order to thoroughly ban and punish the illegal trading of wildlife, abolish the irrational practice of consuming wildlife, maintain biosafety and ecological safety, effectively prevent major public health risks, safeguard the lives and health of the people, strengthen the construction of ecological civilization, and promote the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has made the following decisions:
I. Activities of hunting, trading, transporting and eating wild animals which are banned by the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Wildlife and other relevant laws must be strictly prohibited.
Acts that violate the provisions of the preceding paragraph will trigger harsher penalties based on the existing legal provisions.
