Announcement of the Customs Tariff Commission [2018] No.5

June 16, 2018

The US government released a list of products subject to additional tariffs on June 15, 2018, set to slap 25 percent extra on tariffs on USD50 billion worth of goods imported from China, among which USD34 billion worth of goods will be subject to heavier tariffs from July 6, 2018, and meanwhile, solicited public opinions on the proposed extra tariffs on the remaining USD16 billion worth of goods. The US government's act violates relevant rules of the World Trade Organization and is also contrary to the consensus already reached between the two sides through consultation, seriously damaging China's lawful rights and interests and threatening the national and public benefits of the country.

The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council, in accordance with the Foreign Trade Law of the People's Republic of China, the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Import and Export Duties and other applicable laws and regulations as well as basic principles of international law, has decided to impose an extra 25 percent on tariffs on 659 US-sourced imported commodities worth approximately USD50 billion, among which 545 goods, worth around USD34 billion, will be subject to additional tariffs from July 6, 2018.
