Under the firm leadership of the CPC Central Committee and State Council and with the massive support from various departments and units of the Central Government, PLA forces stationed in Beijing, various provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and broad masses of urban residents, the measures on air quality control and traffic support adopted during the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games achieved remarkable effectiveness, fulfilled in an all-round way the commitment prescribed in the Olympic bid, and reached the goal of satisfying the international community, athletes of different countries and regions and broad masses. In order to thoroughly implement the energy efficiency and emission reduction requirements of the State Council, reduce the impact upon air quality due to motor vehicle exhaust emission, and maintain a generally smooth traffic flow, the municipal government has decided to combine the related traffic control measures with the atmospheric environmental quality as well as specific road conditions and traffic flow of the city.
