Recently, the National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS) have adjusted and formulated the National Catalog of Drugs Covered by Basic Medical Insurance, Maternity Insurance, and Work-related Injury Insurance (2025) (the "Catalog") and the Catalog of Innovative Drugs Covered by Commercial Health Insurance (2025). The Catalog will take effect on January 1, 2026.
This adjustment adds 114 new drugs to the Catalog following the relevant procedures, including 50 Class 1 innovative drugs, while 29 drugs that are no longer supplied clinically or can be better replaced by other medications have been removed (nine of which have other dosage forms with the same therapeutic active ingredients remaining the Catalog, and therefore do not reduce the total number of catalog entries). Following this adjustment, the total number of drugs in the Catalog has increased to 3,253, including 1,857 Western medicines and 1,396 traditional Chinese patent medicines, significantly enhancing drug coverage in key areas such as oncology, chronic diseases, mental disorders, rare diseases, and pediatric medications.
