Recently, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) has released the Circular on Issuing Typical Cases on Technical Evidence Review in Criminal Prosecutions Supported by Prosecutorial Technology (the "Circular").
According to the Circular, six selected typical cases on technical evidence review in criminal prosecutions supported by prosecutorial technology are now released for reference. The cases include, among others, the theft case of Shi X. handled jointly by the People's Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality and the People's Procuratorate of Tongzhou District. The Circular highlights that this batch of cases emphasizes "coordination between higher- and lower-level procuratorates, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the distinctive role of technology in case handling." The selected cases cover multiple areas of prosecutorial technology, including forensic medicine, physical evidence, audio-visual materials, electronic evidence, and environmental damage. For example, in the theft case of Shi X, prosecutorial technicians conducted a comprehensive review and analysis of massive electronic data involved in the case and uncovered overlooked criminal clues.
