MIIT to Enhance Customer Data Security Protection of Internet Data Center

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently issued the Circular on Strengthening Customer Data Security Protection of Internet Data Center (the "Circular").

The Circular outlines seven fundamental requirements, including clarifying the interface of security responsibilities, enhancing institutional development, and strengthening organizational support, and establishes multiple tasks, such as improving security capabilities for server hosting scenarios and enhancing safeguards for data storage and computing. Among other provisions, the Circular calls for ensuring the security of data storage and computing. Actions will be taken to ensure data security capabilities in disaster recovery and backups, verification technologies, cryptographic technologies, and other areas, build monitoring capabilities for storage and computing resources, promptly detect and give early warning on abnormal resource usage, facilitate dynamic resource adjustment and allocation, and ensure the security and availability of relevant resources. The Circular further stresses the need to safeguard data transmission security. Efforts will be made to adopt protective measures such as data encryption, interface authentication, and security auditing, strengthen data security risk monitoring and early warning, build capabilities in detecting, giving warning on, and addressing security risks such as abnormal data traffic and unauthorized data export, and assist customers in safeguarding data transmission links and interfaces.
