The Ministry of Environment and Ecology (MEE) has recently issued the Technical Specification for Nomenclature of Chemical Substances for Environmental Management (the "Specification"), effective as of July 1, 2024.
The Specification stipulates the nomenclature requirements for the chemical substances for environmental management, which are applicable to the nomenclature of chemical substances in environmental management work, such as environmental management registration of new chemical substances, management for the Inventory of Existing Chemical Substances in China, and environmental risk assessment and control for chemical substances. According to the Specification, the names of chemical substances shall be accurate, standardized, and reasonable, and meet the purpose of identifying and distinguishing chemical substances. The form of their Chinese names shall conform to the practices in the formation of Chinese words. Names obtained based on other naming principles other than the Specification, as well as trade names, common names, abbreviations, common names, etc., may be used as other names in environmental management work.
