Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has issued the Circular on Conducting Urban Land Spatial Monitoring for 2024 (the "Circular").
The Circular specifies the work objectives and tasks, which include organizing and conducting urban land spatial monitoring in cities at and above the prefecture level nationwide, using the results of 2023 land change surveys, and based on high-resolution remote sensing images before the end of June 2024, the latest related thematic data available, and field surveys. According to the Circular, the monitoring will, based on the current land use status, further refine relevant land types on the basis of the land type results of the change survey, determine the spatial location, area (length), attributes and other information of the monitoring elements, and monitor their changes. This helps in getting informed of the total urban construction volume, land use structure, infrastructure, service functions, etc., and supporting refined urban construction land, national land spatial planning preparation and implementation supervision, national land spatial planning assessment and land use control, and other land space governance. The Circular also emphasizes the application of monitoring results in national land spatial planning preparation, implementation supervision and other work in the future.
